EIGHT TOPS TIPS TO A SUCCESSFUL POWERFLUSH

Anyone can get hold of a powerflushing pump and call
and set up business as a ‘powerflushing expert’.

The real experts will do a great job and solve your
problems visit. The worst cowboys will spend a few hours,
take your money and leave your system in a worse
condition than they found it.

It’s not enough to find someone who brings along
a powerflushing pump. You MUST find someone who
knows what they’re are doing.

Protect your heating system and wallet and use these
top tips:

1. Choose a company that specialises in powerflushing.
There are a few around these days.

They are powerflushing day in, day out and see every kind of blockage and circulation problem you can think of. Far more, than your average general plumber or heating engineer.

2. Recommendation. Most people have never heard of a powerflush until an engineer mentions it to them or they search online for heating problem solutions. So it’s difficult to get a word of mouth recommendation from a friend.

The next best thing is to check with the last three people their prospective powerflusher has worked for. If the engineer doesn’t want to tell you that, you have to ask yourself if you want them to work for you.

3. Check for – and ASK TO SEE – a copy of their public liabilty insurance policy. Every professional will have one.

4. Find out what professional and trade bodies they belong to. IPHE, CORGI, IoP, FSB and others like them are no guarantee that the engineer will do a good job on the day, but they are a good sign that they take their business seriously.

5. Don’t go for the lowest quote. You get what you pay for.

6. British Gas are normally a good source for getting a quote. They also offer a lifetime guarantee. However, that guarantee is only for as long as you continue a service contract with them. They also charge as much as double the cost from an independent specialist.

7. Listen to the questions they ask. Do they listen to what you tell them, do they ask questions about the symptoms, or do they quickly say something like, “yep, no problem, that’s £xx. Let’s fix a date.”

Are they interested in what you are saying?

You’ll need to use your judgement here, so trust your instinct. It’s usually right.

8. Guarantees. Ask for a guarantee. Although most independents and individuals do not offer a guarantee, there are some that do. For example, my company operates a two-stage powerflusing guarantee.

Firstly, if we can’t fix a problem you’ve told us about, then you don’t pay. Secondly, if the problem happens again within the next two years, we’ll come back and fix it – no charge.
